SNRI Faculty and Affiliated Researchers conduct basic and applied research on a wide range of topics, including but not limited to: sustainable water and land management, drought, wildfire, pollution (air, water and soil), climate change, sustainable agriculture, ecohydrology, biodiversity and conservation, and more.
Membership Eligibility
Membership is open to faculty and researchers who are actively involved in scientific inquiry and scholarship consistent with the objective of SNRI's Mission. Membership is not limited to UC Merced ladder-rank faculty and may include individuals in the professional research series. Voting privileges on SNRI policy and by-law matters are restricted to SNRI members who are ladder-rank faculty. Affiliate membership is open to individuals who do not hold a UC Merced appointment but are engaged in scholarship consistent with the SNRI Mission. Individuals wishing to become members or affiliate members of SNRI must submit a recent CV and letter of interest to the Director indicating their interest and briefly outlining how they will contribute to the SNRI mission. Please reach out to Executive Director, Molly Stephens, for a letter template or to discuss any questions about membership; see the SNRI ORU Bylaws for additional detail. Applications are evaluated by the SNRI Executive Committee's Membership sub-committee and individuals are admitted to SNRI membership if their application receives a majority vote of the Committee.
Membership Benefits
SNRI faculty and affiliate members receive “cradle-to-grave” research administrative support from SNRI staff for their pre- and post-award research grant and contract management needs. This includes assistance with proposal development and submission, research award administration, and award-related hiring, research promotion, events, professional development, access to field vehicles and equipment rental, and more. Most importantly, members (and their associated graduate students and researchers) are a part of the life of the ORU and its active environmental research community network. SNRI also provides members with access to resources such as field vehicle rental and equipment rental (e.g., snowshoes, projectors and other meeting tools).
